John Ruskin: The Stones of Venice - "Venetian Index" - Q

121 Querini Palazzo, now the Beccherie

The most important examples of the third order in Venice are the windows of a ruined palace of Marco Querini. But it was only partly ruined, and was afterwards used as the common shambles. The Venetians have now made a poultry market of the lower story and a prison of the upper, although it is still one of the most important monuments in the City, and especially valuable as giving us a secure date for the central form of these rare transitional windows.
